Anchor collects no data. There is no account to create, no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. We operate no server and receive nothing from your device. Everything you put into Anchor lives on your own devices and, if you are signed in to iCloud, in your own private iCloud database — which only you can access.
Tasks, routines, checklists, notes, voice recordings and routine history are stored on your device. If your device is signed in to iCloud, this data (except voice audio files, which stay on the device that recorded them) syncs between your devices through Apple’s CloudKit service, in a private database tied to your Apple Account. Outback Automation cannot read, access, or recover this data — it belongs to you, on your devices and in your iCloud.
If you are not signed in to iCloud, everything simply stays on the device.
You can export all of your data at any time as a readable JSON file from Settings → Export everything.
Microphone — used only while you are actively recording a voice note (hold-to-talk or tap-to-record). The recording is saved inside the app on your device. Nothing is recorded in the background.
Speech recognition — voice notes are transcribed into task titles. On devices that support it, transcription happens entirely on your device. On devices that don’t, Apple’s speech recognition service processes the audio to produce the transcript, under Apple’s privacy policy. Outback Automation never receives your audio or transcripts in either case.
Notifications — reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device, using the reminder style you chose per task. There are no marketing or engagement notifications, and nothing is sent from a server.
All permissions are optional and requested only at the moment you first use the related feature. Declining a permission never locks you out of the rest of the app.
Anchor uses no third-party SDKs, no analytics libraries, and no advertising frameworks. The only network communication is between your device and Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit) for syncing your own data, and — on devices without on-device speech support — Apple’s speech recognition service as described above.
Your data is retained on your devices and in your iCloud until you delete it. Deleting a task or routine in the app removes it from your synced data. Deleting the app removes all app data from that device. Data synced to your private iCloud database can be removed by deleting content in the app before uninstalling, or through your iCloud storage management. Because we hold nothing, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Because Anchor collects no personal data, there is no data for us to access, correct, export, or erase on your behalf — you hold all of it. The in-app JSON export gives you a complete copy of your data at any time.
Anchor is a general-audience organisation tool and is not directed at children.
If Anchor’s data practices ever change, this page will be updated and the “Last updated” date revised. Material changes will be noted in the App Store release notes for the version that introduces them.
